President’s word

Beginning with 1995, Romanian retail industry registered important and constant growths. The biggest operators in retail and wholesales field monopolized little by little this sector, letting in shadow the small trade and his explosion from the beginning of ’90th. The local, regional and global networks of stores are differentiated by many aspects as, for example, the targeted customers, the type of products commercialized, the way items are sold, the marketing strategies, sales and replenishment organization. However, all of them have a common point: The GS1 Standards System which enables them to have a unitary approach of items and services information in the wide diversity of the market.

Let’s imagine that the GS1 System does not exist and each country or region, even each city would have his own coding system for product and services. It is obvious that wouldn’t be possible the development of production structures that codifies the same item in many ways, and obviously wouldn’t be possible that the same retail structure to accept many different coding structures.

The automate identification and electronic data interchange (EDI) in the supply chain enabled, based on GS1 System, an unprecedented development of commerce, speeding the replenishment and sales processes generating huge savings for producers and retailers, and also for the final customer.

GS1 Romania has technical realizations comparable with the one of GS1 organizations in the most advanced countries. Thus, the central data base of GS1 Romania contain not less then 600 000 items, internationally accessible in GS1 network, GEPIR and the national electronic catalog CEROM, with the same content and index as the mentioned data base, will soon make possible the connection with Global Registry, being organized based on the international specifications regarding Global Product Classification.

For the next period, 2005-2006, we want to attract into the large family of GS1 Romania many of the service providers in the automate identification field; this will allow as to better deliver to our members the information about those able to create implementations based on GS1 System.

In that purpose, GS1 Romania must remain a partner for all producers and distributors in Romania for solving their problems related to product identification, data alignment and electronic business communication.

Using a common language you will sale better!
